Rebuild my Church…

St. Francis of Assisi heard the words of Christ on the Cross 800 years ago in the chapel at San Damiano. Since that time and from that place, a movement began. Women and men have followed Francis in living the Gospel life, building up the Body of Christ: praying and preaching, teaching and healing.

Today Franciscans serve all over the world, present in nearly every country. They serve the poor and marginalized in social ministries, teach children and adults, work in pastoral ministry in mission areas and urban parishes, renew people’s faith in retreat centers and spiritual direction – wherever and however they can carry on Francis’s response to Jesus’ command.

GIOTTO FRESCO DEPICTS RULE OF ST. FRANCIS BEING APPROVED BY POPE INNOCENT III

From the beginning, as members of a mendicant order, the Franciscan Friars and Sisters have begged for the funds to support their work and their lives. Large sums from generous benefactors and small donations from those who could ill afford to give, have combined to build schools, hospitals, churches, convents, and friaries.

And much more importantly, their gifts have funded the life-transforming activity taking place inside those structures. The Franciscan Foundation plays a significant role in the financial support of these projects and ministries.
