Gifts from individuals to the non-designated portion of the assets, however, allow the Foundation flexibility in awarding grants, especially in emergency situations. All funds within the Foundation follow a principle of tithing, in which an additional 10% of the monies from designated funds are awarded to less fortunate Franciscans and their ministries.
